The Integrated Arts

On Monday we were lucky enough to have our artist Mme Alexander come to our school to teach us about the Aboriginal Culture.

Mme Alexander brought a lot of beautiful aboriginal artifacts, which she let us touch and explore.  Among the artifacts were dream catchers, sun catchers, furs, moccasins, mukluks, gourd rattles and many more interesting objects.

Mme Alexander came back Thursday to help us create a paper medicine wheel.

On Thursday next week, we will be wrapping leather around a metal hoop.   We will be learning about what the traditional colours of the wheel signify (red, yellow, black and white.) We will be finishing our medicine wheels, using pony beads, pipe cleaners and feathers.

The great Canadian letter exchange

Our class is participating in a Canadian letter exchange.  We are in charge of the letter O this year.  We made 26 letter O's, we coloured them orange, added an Olaf and turned an O into an owl.  We will send our letter out to 25 schools around Canada and in turn receive 25 letters from those classroom, our hope,is to learn about other communities around Canada and also receive a whole alphabet to display.  Below are a few pictures of us working on our letter, and a letter that we received this week!!!
